Emergency and Critical Care Training
In Zimbabwe, the demand for highly skilled health professionals in Emergency Departments and Critical Care settings is paramount. Emergency Health Solutions (EHS) is at the forefront of addressing this need by offering specialized training programs designed to enhance the capabilities of healthcare providers. Our comprehensive courses focus on key areas such as Advanced Life Support (ALS), Advanced Cardiac Life Support, Critical Care Procedures in Emergency Departments, ECG Interpretation, Triaging in Emergency Department and Basic Life Support (BLS) for professionals and the general public. Through these targeted training programs, EHS is committed to equipping health professionals with the essential skills and knowledge to deliver exceptional patient care and improve health outcomes across the nation.
According to a recent study on Emergency Medical Services (EMS) utilization in Harare, trauma and pregnancy-related emergencies are the most common reasons for Emergency Medical Services (EMS) calls, accounting for 56% of all transports to medical facilities. The majority of patients requiring EMS services are between the ages of 15 and 49, with 61% being female. Additionally, more than half of the transports (51%) are for inter-facility transfers, with 52% of these being maternity related.
These statistics underscore the critical need for specialized training in emergency care to address the prevalent issues effectively. By focusing on Advanced Life Support (ALS), Critical Care Procedures, and Basic Life Support (BLS) education for health professionals and the general public, Emergency Health Solutions (EHS) aims to equip health professionals and the public with the necessary skills to improve patient outcomes and enhance the overall quality of emergency care in Zimbabwe.
Critical Care Procedures in Emergency Department
Emergency Health Solutions (EHS) provides specialized training in Critical Care Procedures for healthcare professionals in the Emergency Department (ED). This hands-on program aims to advance the practical skills and theoretical knowledge necessary for essential invasive and non-invasive procedures frequently performed in high-acuity environments. The comprehensive training encompasses all vital emergency procedures within the scope of practice for physicians and nurses in the ED.
Procedures
Vascular Access: Proficient insertion of peripheral intravenous (IV) catheters, central venous catheters (CVCs), and arterial lines for the administration of pharmacotherapy and fluid resuscitation, as well as for invasive hemodynamic monitoring.
Airway Management: Implementation of advanced airway adjuncts and techniques to ensure airway patency and optimize ventilation and oxygenation. This is paramount in critical patient care within the ED.
Resuscitation: Execution of cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), defibrillation, and adherence to Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) and Advanced Life Support (ALS) protocols during cardiopulmonary arrest.
Endotracheal and Supraglottic Airway: A critical procedure to secure a compromised airway. This involves the insertion of an endotracheal tube (ETT) or Supraglottic devices on a compromised airway to maintain airway patency and facilitate mechanical ventilation.
Mechanical Ventilation: Non-invasive ventilation (NIV) and Invasive mechanical ventilation. Ventilators are the machines that breathes or help a patient to breath.
Advanced Critical Procedures: Performance of highly specialized interventions in emergency department during life-threatening situations.
Cardiac Monitoring: Continuous real-time assessment of cardiac electrical activity via electrocardiography (ECG) to detect and manage cardiac arrhythmias and other cardiac pathologies.
Sedation and Analgesia: Administration of pharmacological agents for procedural sedation and pain management to ensure patient comfort and facilitate the execution of medical interventions.
Electrocardiogram (ECG) Interpretation: Comprehensive analysis of 12-lead ECGs for the accurate diagnosis and management of various cardiac conditions in emergency department.
Trauma Patient Care: All procedures required during management of trauma patient such as surgical airway, needle thoracostomy, massive transfusion, limb and pelvic stabilisation, haemorrhage control, bedside ultrasound, intraosseous etc.
Diagnostic Modalities: Ordering and interpretation of laboratory blood tests and medical imaging studies, including radiography (X-rays) and computed tomography (CT) scans, for diagnostic elucidation and patient monitoring.
