Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
The Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) Provider Course offered by Emergency Health Solutions (EHS) is a comprehensive and critical training program designed for healthcare professionals who are actively involved in the management of cardiopulmonary arrest and other cardiovascular emergencies. This course rigorously adheres to the latest evidence-based guidelines from the American Heart Association (AHA), integrating principles from the The Resuscitation Council of Southern Africa and local Zimbabwean standards to ensure its direct applicability and relevance within our healthcare context.
Course Overview:
Our 2-day (16-hour) ACLS course builds upon foundational Basic Life Support (BLS) skills, equipping participants with advanced knowledge and practical competencies essential for leading and participating effectively in resuscitation efforts. The curriculum emphasizes a systematic approach to patient assessment, rapid recognition of life-threatening conditions, and timely, effective interventions.
Key Learning Areas Include:
High-Quality BLS Review: Reinforcement of effective chest compressions, bag-mask ventilation, and early defibrillation.
Systematic Approach to Emergencies: Mastering the initial and primary assessment of critically ill patients to prevent cardiac arrest.
Advanced Airway Management: Techniques and strategies for securing and maintaining a patient's airway during resuscitation.
Cardiac Arrest Management: In-depth understanding and application of ACLS algorithms for both shockable (Ventricular Fibrillation, Pulseless Ventricular Tachycardia) and non-shockable (Asystole, Pulseless Electrical Activity) rhythms.
ACLS Pharmacology: Comprehensive review of emergency medications, including indications, dosages, and routes of administration (IV/IO).
ECG Rhythm Recognition: Advanced interpretation of electrocardiograms to identify and manage various arrhythmias (bradycardias, tachycardias, lethal rhythms).
Management of Peri-Arrest Conditions: Strategies for stabilizing patients with symptomatic bradycardia and stable/unstable tachycardias.
Acute Coronary Syndromes (ACS) & Stroke Management: Recognition and initial management of heart attacks and strokes, emphasizing time-sensitive interventions.
Special Resuscitation Situations: Adapting ACLS protocols for unique scenarios such as cardiac arrest in pregnancy, toxicological emergencies, and electrolyte imbalances.
Team Dynamics & Communication: Developing effective leadership, clear communication, and efficient teamwork skills crucial for successful resuscitation outcomes.
Target Audience:
This course is ideal for physicians, nurses, paramedics, emergency medical technicians, and other healthcare providers who are required to manage or participate in cardiovascular emergencies.
Pre-course Requirement:
Participants are required to complete and pass the official AHA ACLS Pre-course Self-Assessment online module prior to attending the course, ensuring a foundational understanding of ECG rhythm interpretation and pharmacology.
Certification:
Upon successful completion of both theoretical (written exam) and practical (mega-code scenario) assessments, participants will receive an AHA ACLS Provider e-card, valid for two years.
